Bad Salad 12/11/11

won't let a bad salad get me down!

I learnt an important lesson this weekend whilst strolling through the streets of vieux lyon looking for a restaurant. Never choose a restaurant because of it's location. The streets were horribly busy with tourists in the old part of the city and everywhere was full. So we wandered a bit further out to a cute little place with a terrace by a church overlooking the river. Great location granted. Craving a classic lyonais dish, I ordered a salade lyonais. Simple but wonderful. Runny poached egg, lardons, croutons and frisé salad. Beautifully uncomplicated. But what the waiter bought out was a disaster! tomatoes, sweetcorn, canned artichoke, grated carrot and a sauce that seemed to ressemble the white stains on the chef's crotch. mmmmmmm tasty. To top it off, perched on top was a rock hard poached egg. Not impressed, please never go to "Le Terrace" in Vieux Lyon. They managed to take something simple and great and ruin it. A classic case of over egging the salad!
